December, with all its holiday hoopla and my kiddies transitioning to their winter break from school, kept me too busy to read beyond one novel. My pick for the month was Laura Lippman's book, What The Dead Know. Lippman's novel captivated me a bit too much, (if there is such a thing as being overly captivated). Her novel gracefully takes us back and forth through a thirty year old unsolved mystery of two sisters that went missing from a shopping mall in Baltimore. Thirty years later a woman driving, distracted by her past, finds herself in an auto accident while on a familiar road in Baltimore. What she does next sets fire to the case of the two young missing sisters by claiming to be one of them. I could not bear the suspense beyond chapter 10 skipping all the way to the chapter that solves the mystery of the two missing sisters. **shrugs shoulders while cocking head to one side** It's how I read suspenseful stories, what can I say? Despite knowing the grand mystery, {it was shocking}, I still went back where I left off and continued to read the lip biting novel. It was well worth reading it to the finish. I truly enjoyed Lippman's observation of human behavior and how the choices we make in our lives can affect more people than you could possibly imagine.
Next week should provide me with ample time to finish my second book selection ~ Tortilla Curtain by T. C. Boyle. Hubby has been distracting me lately with Hume perking my interest. Not sure what I will select for the month of February but it may be related to something in philosophy. Bloggers, if you have any favorite books on the subject matter, please share with me!
Asta luego!
