Yesterday we celebrated Father's Day at home. We usually go out to a restaurant or gather with other family members for a barbecue, however our papi wanted to relax and do nothing for a change. For this special day, I brewed a big pot of pozole and made some fresh agua de jamaica. Traditionally pozole, (pork stew made with the pig's neck bone, feet, as well as hominy, and chiles) is used for special occasions and celebrations. Although it was a warm day and my casita was going to heat up even more so, I went ahead and prepared it because I knew my husband had been craving it for some time.
Feeling relaxed, my husband put on his musica ranging from Banda el Recodo to rancheras from Javier Solis. Our boys helped me clean-up our house whiled I shredded cabbage and diced onions to go with the pozole. Toasting the chiles and steeping the hibiscus flowers filled our house with a yummy aroma. My guys kept trying to sneak sips of agua de jamaica.
Our eldest no longer lives with us but he called earlier in the day to wish his step-father a happy Father's Day. My boy gave my husband the best compliment a father can get anytime of the year. Sorry folks, I'm not sharing what he said.
The day was sweet and very relaxing for us all. I hope you all had a great day as well with your families.
Happy Father's Day to all the papis out there!

We stayed at home too. He wanted to relax and that's what he did, played video games, ate some "arepas con pernil" and enjoyed the baby. It was just the three of us at home
Uuuuu! I've never heard of arepas con pernil. I just googled it to see what it was and they seem similar to gorditas. Yummy!
After spending hurried weekend after jammed packed weekend, it is super nice to just stay home and relax with the family. Glad yours was just as good! :)
I am going to pretend I did not just find out that there are neck bones in pozole because I eat it around Christmas time when it's served at church and I like it. LOL.
Your husband has good taste in music!
Glad you all had a nice Father's Day :)
Catalina, it sounds like it was a wonderful day. Made ever better with pozole.
@Tracy ~ ROLOL!!! You heard right! Neck bones are commonly used in the soup. The bones flavor the soup and b/c they're big, they are meaty. I throw in trocitos de puerco too. Umm Ummm!!
@Unknown Mami ~ It WAS wonderful!
