Empowering Girls in LA

Girls 7th through 12th grade are invited to take part of a special free conference entitled, How To Be A Girl. It is a five day conference that will be held later this month from August 23-27 2010 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dockweiler Youth Center in Los Angeles. World renowned author and talk show host, Dr. Gilda Carle along with award-wining community activist and radio personality, Josefa Salinas have joined forces to help change the lives of 50 girls from Los Angeles this summer.

Statistics show that many young girls have a poor image of themselves,” says Dr. Gilda.  “I am delighted to be involved in a project that provides the tools and empowers girls to be happy with who they are.”

Girls attending 7th to 12th grade are eligible to become a part of the conference.  To be accepted, candidates must submit an essay no more than 300 words explaining why they want to change their lives and participate.  The deadline to apply is Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010. Candidates may send in their entries via email to HowToBeaGirl2010@aol.com.

The 50 girls who will be chosen to attend the conference via essay submission will attend self-empowerment sessions led by Dr. Gilda.  Other guest speakers include Author, Producer and Director Legiah Villalobos, Award-Winning Actress Adriana Garza, Author and C.E.O. Stacy Milner, TV Producer and Celebrity Manager Paress Salinas, Celebrity Photographer Kate Romero and Miss U.S.A. Pageant Consultant Corinne Bozin-Grizzell.
