Updates for September through Early December

Hola Blogger World!! My goodness have I bundle to unload.

BOOK READS
For starters, my intentions with the side bar noting my monthly book reads have been completely ignored by yours truly. : (( S O R R I E....mira como se me fue el tiempo. If you recall I had ambitiously noted three books for September...hmmmm. The following months I was more realistic about how many I would read keeping my list to just two books per month. Well, as time would have it, I only read three books in these past three months. {bashfully shrugs, batting lashes, biting nails}

The first book I read was My Life in Paris by Julia Child. I did my self a favor and watched the movie first, Julie and Julia, based on the memoir from Julie Powell about her blogging experience. My reason for watching the movie version first is, because I'm always disappointed in how much filmmakers change the context of the books to fit their interpretations onto a two hour movie...Phoey!! By the way this movie was my inspiration to blog, along with the encouragement from my friend Liz whom is also a blogger. Blogger happy here!!! Moving on...I absolutely loved the flowery words Julia placed together to tell her story. She was so much more down to earth than I had ever imagined her to be. Her lust for life was inspiring and made me feel lighter and happier about the world we live in. What a great joy to see the world of France through her eyes. Hopefully one year my husband and I will be able to afford a trip their. {just in case you were wondering, the movie was cute and funny.}

The second book I read was The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai. No offense to whom ever has read this book and enjoyed it, but this book failed to hold my attention. I found it to be a bit too prolix for my taste. I felt that the writer could have easily left out most of the "nooks and crannies"/details without compromising the story. Clearly, this is my opinion alone because this book was a winner of the National Book Critics Circle and the Man Booker Prize, plus it was on the National Best Sellers list for quite some time. Boooo...I consider myself a somewhat avid reader yet this book failed to grab hold of me. Aaaaa bueno!

The third book I read was I'm Down ~ A Memoir by Mishna Wolff. Loved it!!! Mishna's story reads very much like fiction that I had to remind myself that it was indeed a memoir. The writer takes us to her world, growing up in the ghetto as a young white girl in a black community. She describes her struggles in trying to "fit in". Early on in her young life she was recognized as gifted, (above average intelligence), and was transferred to a school that was located in an affluent neighborhood. Mishna's memoir eloquently recounts the harshness of criss-crossing between both worlds while trying to define herself. Being true to yourself is much easier to do when you actually know who you are. I don't want to give too much away, but it was definitely a very good read. {thanks Peggy for the loan}

Currently I am reading What The Dead Know by Laura Lippman. You have to wait till I'm finished reading this book for my mini review. So far so good! I'm enjoying the mystery and suspense.

HOUSE PROJECTS
Aye!!! Don't get me started... Woops, I think I just did... Okay, we are continuing on the road of uncompleted projects. The rains are threatening to strike us sometime later this week, and yes, the garage and patio still have lots of work to be done with. Woe-is us because we are not fast enough. Fellow bloggers, please send us well wishes and positive energy to our direction. (((sigh)))

EMPLOYED??
Guess what??? Keep guessing...teee heeee!! Had enough??? Are you sure??? Alrighty then...I recently finished my training for a new job. Hmmm, maybe I will need to change my status from SAHM to working mommy. Actually not quite since I am only working one day a week. My new job - Newborn Hearing Technician. You may be asking how this relates to my recent educational acquisitions. If you recall, I had received my Associates of Science and Associates of Arts degrees back in September. My major was business administration, and for a while I was also a film major. All my years of study have absolutely nothing to do with my new job. However, I am super pleased to be working even if it is just one day a week. Now that my youngens are not so young I have been looking forward to the next part of my life. I have so much to offer that I hope employers will notice. In the meantime, I believe I still qualify as a super SAHM!!! : ))

FIRST BLOGGERS' EVENT
Woooo!!! I am so excited about this. Recently I was invited to attend the Fresh & Easy blogger event that is coming up later this week. When Fresh & Easy first came to California I was thrilled not only because it was new, it was also promising for the economy of the neighborhoods the company was investing on. As you know, this is a time when numerous companies are skimming down to stay afloat. Yet, here is this giant from Europe willing to take a risk by building stores in various communities throughout the Los Angeles area and surrounding subburbs. It was exciting to see a new store pop up in my little community. I was one of the first ones to take pleasure in exploring Fresh & Easy. Their selection on food is great and it is truly convenient to shop their. I look forward to enjoying the goodies they have planned for the evening's event.

Well readers, this is the jist of my life for the past three months. ((phew)) *wipes forehead with one hand** I promise not to take so long with my next post so as not to leave you and me with shortness of breathe.

Adios!!!
